WHY WE EXIST
We started making meat snacks in 2016 because everything else we found was packed full of bulls#&t ingredients. Since day 1 we've kept it simple: just meat, vinegar and spices you'd find in your pantry. We hope you enjoy chewing the good stuff.
BARBELL BEGINNINGS
Growing up in South Africa, my brother Rory and I learnt how to make biltong from a young age. After moving to Australia, we started making our own as a high-protein snack for camping trips and weekends outdoors with our mates Matt and Tom.
Tying shoe strings together, we formed Barbell; our day jobs were soon quit and parents concerned.
We’ve come a long way since then but our approach to making meat snacks without bulls#&t ingredients has never changed.
NO BULLS#&T INGREDIENTS
Most snacks are full of artificial ingredients, sugars and preservatives. We think that’s bulls#&t, which is why we keep our ingredients list simple - just meat, vinegar and spices.
High protein. Zero sugar. Naturally air-dried. That's why we make the best damn biltong in Australia (no bias).
FARMING FOR THE FUTURE
Early on in the journey, we decided that the success of our business must work to support better farming practices. The welfare of the animals we’re eating and the sustainable nature in which they're farmed must come before profits.
